Remodeling & Renovation Process
If you have experienced a remodeling project before, you also have witnessed how some phases of the project can be slow, and how some can be fast. If this is your first time taking on a remodeling project, we know you are excited, and we know you want the project to kick off and be completed in a timely manner. But first, please allow us to tell you a little about these phases so that you know what to expect. This information is not to scare you or cast any doubt; on the contrary, it is to give you a clear vision for the road ahead. Please be aware that every project is different in size and complexity. Therefore, some stages below will differ from one project to the next.
-Demolition phase: We need to take things apart, so your ideas can be built. We know this is not a pleasant time; dust, seeing people whom you have never seen before coming through your house, water or power being turned off intermittently, lots of trash being hauled away, and possibly a dumpster in the driveway. But all these are necessary tasks. We do our best to clean and contain the dust during demolition stage and all other stages as much as we are able.
-Framing phase: When the demolition phase is complete, we move into the framing phase. This is a period when things start to come alive, and start to take shape.
-Rough-in phase: As soon as framing phase is complete, plumbers, electricians, HVAC people start working, as needed. This phase might not seem as fast, or exciting, but it is very crucial. There will be a lot of decisions concerning all these trades depending on the project size, and complexity. At this stage, some projects will require inspections to be performed by local authorities. Note that the plumbers, electricians, and HVAC contractors are not Aslan employees; however, we have worked with a handful of each over the years and can suggest stellar contractors for your project.
-Insulation and Drywall phase: Once mechanical trades complete their tasks, the next step is the insulation and drywall phase. Seeing drywall going up is exciting, you will start to see how things will look.
-Final phase: After the drywall is taped, plastered, sanded, and primed, the final phase of the project will start. This is when painting; installation of doors, installation of door/window/base trim, built-ins, shelves, closets, cabinets, tile, hardwood, carpet, the electrical & plumbing fixtures, medicine and vanity cabinets, shower enclosures, various types of hardware, appliances, and other items are complete. Each of these elements may demand quite a bit of time to accomplish your dreams, and we strive for perfection.
Every phase above comes with it’s unique challenges; please be open-minded of them. Remodeling requires integrating your ideas into an existing structure; this integration requires a unique set of problem solving skills.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
If your remodeling project has a design specialist (such as an Architect), we advise you to contact us when construction documents – architectural drawings, structural drawings, and specs – are ready. It is very difficult to give an accurate estimate without construction documents. Moreover, a project does not start when these documents are ready; the permit application and construction documents are then submitted for a building permit at your local permitting and licensing office. When the permit is approved, the project can move forward. If the permit is not approved, the project can not move forward. Please keep an open mind that the design and permit processes may take time.
